15 New Teachers Join Michigan Conference

In the midst of a teacher shortage, the Michigan Conference hired 15 new teachers for the 2022-2023 school year. Find out more about each teacher below.
Charlene Lavellee is the new 5th grade teacher at Village Elementary School. She graduated from Andrews University in 1994. She previously worked in the public school system.
Edna Schaffer is teaching Kindergarten at Ruth Murdoch Elementary School. She graduated from the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies in 2021. Schaffer comes to us from the Greater New York Conference.
Emmy Rodriguez Harris is the new principal and 6-8th grade teacher at Holland Adventist Academy. She graduated from Midwestern State University in 2005. Prior to joining us in Michigan, she worked in the public school system in Virginia.
Heidi Beardsley is teaching grades 5-7 at Gobles Junior Academy. She graduated from Southern Adventist University in 1996. She most recently taught in the Kansas-Nebraska Conference.
Heidi Rasmussen is teaching grades 6-10, and high school English and History at Greater Lansing Adventist School. She graduated from Pacific Union Collage in 2011. Rasmussen comes to us from the Wisconsin Conference.
John Landis is teaching high school Bible and Biology at Battle Creek Academy. He graduated from Southern Adventist University in 2019.
Justin Groff is teaching grades 7-8 at ASPIRE Academy. He graduated from Andrews University in 2011. Groff recently served as a principal in the Texas Conference.
Kamran Masih is teaching grades 5-8 at Cedar Lake Elementary School. He’ll graduate from La Sierra University in 2022 with a master’s degree. Prior to his employment here, he taught for the Guam Micronesia Mission.
Kelly Lorensin is teaching high school English, History, and choir at Battle Creek Academy. She graduated from Andrews University in 2000.
Manuel Alamo is teaching grades 6-10 at the Greater Lansing Adventist School. He graduated from the Manilla Adventist Medical Center School of Medical Arts in 2000. He has taught at several schools, including the Kosrae and Yap Seventh-day Adventist Schools, and the Adventist International Mission School in Thailand.
Melody Ringstaff is teaching high school Integrated Sciences at ASPIRE Academy. She graduated from Andrews University in 2022.
Mishelle Edańo-Sendow is teaching grades 1-5 at Oakwood Junior Academy. She graduated from Mount Carmel University in 2017. Edańo-Sendow taught and tutored students internationally.
Rosalie Rasmussen is team-teaching grades K-8 at the Pine Mountain Christian School. She graduated from Andrews University in 1981. She was recently a principal in the Wisconsin Conference.
Toni Neri is teaching grades 5-6 at ASPIRE Academy. She graduated from Andrews University in 2013. Neri taught most recently in the Indiana Conference.
Yvette Watler-Kanjire is teaching grades 5-6 at Grand Rapids Adventist Academy. She graduated from Andrews University in 2009. She was teaching at Kabula Hill School in Malawi.
